For the past 6 years EUNIC SPAIN, together with the European Commission, has organised in Madrid the European Day of Languages
which has become a widely recognisable flagship project of the cluster. Given its success, in 2016 the Day of Languages has been transformed into the European Week of Languages, consisting of five days of different linguistic, literary and cultural events. This year’s edition took place between 25th and 29th of September 2017. With the objective of promoting different languages and their
cultural significance, 20 European institutions in 8 different locations in Madrid (Alliance Française, British Council, Goethe Institut,
Institut Français d'Espagne, Instituto Cervantes, Instituto Iberoamericano de Finlandia, Istituto Italiano di Cultura and the Representation of the European Commission in Spain), participated in a variety of activities, among them film screenings,
book exhibitions, concerts, guided tours, mini language courses, national specialties degustation, meetings with authors and theatre workshops.
The news about the European Week of Languages 2017 was covered by more than 20 different media and met with a wide response on social media.
